B.A. Westfield State University
M.S. UMass Boston
Kristen Lawrie has a passion for working with young children, particularly those under the age of nine. She specializes in supporting children who have experienced trauma, significant life stressors, adjustment challenges, or difficulties within the family dynamic. Kristen takes a preventative approach to care, with the goal of reducing the likelihood of mental health challenges in adolescence and adulthood.
Kristen approaches her work from a non-pathologizing, collaborative, and empathic perspective, seeking to understand the underlying reasons behind a child’s behavior rather than focusing solely on the behavior itself. She uses a person-centered, holistic, systems-oriented, and strengths-based approach while consistently working from a trauma-informed lens.
Kristen tailors her interventions to meet each child’s unique needs. Her therapeutic work may include non-directive play therapy as well as sensory, somatic, and art-based interventions. She also supports children and families through coping skill development, healthy communication skills, modeling and role-modeling, psychoeducation, and parent coaching. When helpful, Kristen incorporates behavioral strategies along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques.
Kristen strives to create a safe, supportive space where children feel understood and caregivers feel empowered to support their child’s growth.
